The Third Inekas Summer School: “Muhammad: Life, Society, and Legacy”

The Third Inekas Summer School, held in Sep. 2023, focused on the theme “Muhammad: Life, Society, and Legacy.” This event was a collaboration between the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter (UK) and the Hanif Center for Religious Studies (Iran).

The summer school featured 24 presentations, with 17 in English and 7 in Persian, spread over 7 days. This provided an opportunity for students interested in Islamic or Middle Eastern studies to improve their Persian language skills for academic purposes.

The event took place on August 24th, 25th, 31st, and September 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th, from 11:30 to 18:00 BST (6:30 to 13:00 EDT). The presentations offered a glimpse into recent scholarship on various aspects of the life and legacy of Prophet Muhammad, including:

The pre-Islamic and early Islamic Arabian Peninsula and Medina
Muhammad’s biography and Sira
Muhammad’s family
Muhammad’s cultural legacy in Muslim societies
Muhammad in non-Muslim sources
The Third Inekas Summer School aimed to deepen understanding and facilitate academic discourse on the life, society, and enduring impact of this influential historical figure.
